Re: Cracked Wheel Nuts
I really don’t think it has anything to do with the way anyone is riding. Although large bumps or potholes might not help. But aggressive riding I believe is not a contributing factor.

Re: Cracked Wheel Nuts
I have to wonder how many of these are being torqued too tight?
Are guys including dealers just tightening these by hand using a breaker bar because they don't have the right wrench?
221 ft lbs is a lot, does it really require that much torque?
I will check mine and tighten only as much as I feel it needs to be secure.

Re: Cracked Wheel Nuts
Well now that you have put your intentions online for the world to see, if you tamper with and change the torque of the Nuts and have a problem I’m sure you’ll have warranty issues. I’m quite sure BRP in time will address this issue. But all failures need reported to NHTSA.gov.harry76 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 5:11 pmI have to wonder how many of these are being torqued too tight?

Lol
You guys know nothing of my expertise or experience, the nuts are being over stressed either from heat expansion or tightening beyond its capabilities.
If Can Am recalls the nuts I will have it replaced.
Until then I will use my own judgment as to how tight it needs to be since Can Ams seems to be wrong.
Re: Cracked Wheel Nuts
I will say my wheel nuts were not torqued to near 221 ft. lbs when I got my machine home. That being said, they are at 221 ft. lbs now and will stay that way until BRP advises differently. I would also suggest if you have a warranty claim these wheel nuts better damn well be torqued to specs. After all, it is a maintenance item and if you don't maintain the machine then warranty claims can easily be voided. It's the guys with the calibrated arms is what concerns me. I certainly don't want to lose a wheel at 70 mph.
