Over torque is also an obvious issue however the above could only be proven if nobody has touched the wheel nut since purchasing their bike. Regardless of how few bikes have this problem, losing a tire is not something you want to see someone experience.
Cracked Wheel Nuts
Re: Cracked Wheel Nuts
Working in manufacturing I can tell you that the problem has a very good chance of being a bad batch of wheel nuts. Is there a way to set up a page asking anyone with a bad wheel nut to post their serial# ? Maybe answer some simple questions ... Serial#, Which wheel, have you or anyone worked on the wheel, etc.

Re: Cracked Wheel Nuts
Although time will tell once BRP gets off it ass, but I’ll place my bet it’s because the Nut is Aluminum. JMHO.

Steel is two and a half times denser than aluminium !!!!Decon Blue wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 10:46 amAlthough time will tell once BRP gets off it ass, but I’ll place my bet it’s because the Nut is Aluminum. JMHO.

Re: Cracked Wheel Nuts
I agree, while they may be capable of that much torque when tightening, what kind of pressure are they seeing when the wheel/ axles start expanding from heat?
Perhaps an Acme thread would work better than a angle thread, it would have less tendency to spread the nut.

Re: Cracked Wheel Nuts
When I read about this ,my first thought was that some mechanics are useing an air impact wrench on these nuts.
The high torque with the high vibration of an impact wrench was more than the nut could stand and cracked. I think this is what we will find out down the road.
One of the first things I did when I got the bike was to check the wheel nuts on first inspection. They all clicked off at 221 ft lbs.
I backed them off and retightened to be sure they were not over 221' lbs. So far so good,no cracksI.
I will keep checking this forum for updates on this problem.

Re: Cracked Wheel Nuts
This should be part of a normal maintenance routine. Just like if you have aluminum wheels on a car/truck and you get new tires installed, you need to have the torque checked after 100 miles or so. The problem is a lot of the buyers/owners are not mechanically inclined and don't even own a screw driver, so there's that.

Re: Cracked Wheel Nuts
I was supposed to pick up my 2020 Ryker Rally from Pensacola Motorsports tomorrow, October 4th. Was notified from my sales representative that there is a stop sales on all Rykers due to a safety recall. I asked him what the recall was for and he said it was for the lug nuts. I said that I had been following the cracked wheel nut issue on Ryker Forums and on You Tube. Hoping the new nuts will be sent soonest so I can finally get my Ryker. I received the pictures of Hopper earlier today and was getting all the paperwork ready for tomorrows pick up....
