While riding my Ryker Rally the other day the right front wheel locked up . I just turned at a stop sign and it slid the tire. I had just came though some fast curves. Good thing it didn't happen then !! I took it back to the dealer and what happened was there are 3 pins pressed in the back of the wheel. The pins go through the brake disc to hold it in place. The pins came loose and came through the disc and caught on the wheel bearing housing locking the wheel up. I think what happened is the wheel nut didn't get torqued to the 221 ft. lbs. and worked the pins loose. I had them retorque the other two while I watched and he got about a quarter of a turn on them.

I told them they need to call all the ones they sold back and retorque the wheel nuts, they said they were. I would recomened you guys do the same and watch them do it for your peace of mind.

To my suprise, they pulled a rally off the showroom floor for the parts i needed. They replaced the tire and wheel,the whole wheelbearing and housing while I waited.
I have 1400 miles on my Rally.

Thanks for the post Archie 2303. Now that I know my wheels are torqued properly , I will be checking my pins before every ride. If the pins move I will post
immediately. Regardless BRP needs to come up with a fix. Maybe thread the pins and lock tite them.

Should the pins be flush or are they supposed to stick out a little bit?

The pins stick out a little bit. I think I will paint that part black and if they move I'll be able to tell at a glance.

The pin holes in the wheel that locked up were elongated. That tells me every time I braked the disc was rocking the pins. If the wheel was torqued correctly, maybe 231 ft. lbs. isn't enough to hold it.

Man, this is mind bothering. Good thing there was not an accident.
Answer from my BRP dealer regarding this video - Most likely the wheel nut was tot tightened as to spec.
For the peace of mind, most likely I will be safety wiring the Safety Clip with a plastic zip tie or even better with steel wire on both wheels.

what are your thoughts on this?

When I watched them retorque my other two nuts he got about a quarter turn on them and the retainers were still fine. The question is , are the nuts backing out even when torqued to specs. That's why I recommend getting your wheels retorqued and if their not up to specs let us know and have your dealer document it. BRP might have to call them all back and lock tite the nuts. I had 1400 mi. before my wheel locked up , so it might not show up right away. I will check them again in 500 mi. and probably lock tite them for peace of mind. I will still have them checked every 500 until we figure out what going on.
I also feel that the disc should be bolted to the wheel like your picture of the Ducati instead of pins.
