In my area the Rally addition is difficult to find. My question being are they so much better than the 900? I am 76 years old looking to ride.

Better is subjective, the main concept of the rally is the light off road riding it is capable of. That brings an extra mode and upgrade shocks for that purpose (there are additional accessories as well). If you don't plan on doing that then the base 900 model is just as good when it comes to normal road riding.

In my opinion the 900 ACE suspension is way too soft that is why I got the Rally. And for an extra $1k it is a bargain over the Base 900. So yes, to me, it is that much better.
